Event:Long-Term Oil Industry Cycles and Energy Strategy (Presentation in English) Date:Saturday, June 30, 2012 – 9:00 AM to Noon Speaker:Dr. S. K. Steve Chang Details:Oil has been a main force behind economic development around the world since more than a century ago. A review of the history of oil industry and its long term cycles can be helpful in charting the course of actions at the time of short term uncertainty. Oil industry has been on the upswing during the past 12 years, with a couple of almost year-long interruptions due to global financial crisis since 2008. After reaching a peak near $150/barrel in 2008, oil price dropped drastically; and now it’s steadily increasing again passing $100/barrel. Many questions have been raised for several years. Will there be enough oil to support world economic growth? Do the cycles in oil price have positive or negative impact on the future financial health for everyone? What should the energy strategy be when the oil price is low or high? In this presentation, we will start with the beginning of oil industry, review the past and present, and project into the future. Based on the understanding of the oil industry, we will review energy strategies during and beyond this uncertain period. Where:
