HOUSTON ZOO CELEBRATES WORLD OCEANS DAY

(06/07/2012)

(HOUSTON) May 31, 2012 … It’s estimated that 50-80% of all life on earth is found under the ocean surface and that the oceans contain 99% of the living space on the planet. Yet, less than 10% of that space has been explored by humans. Find out what you’ve been missing on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the Houston Zoo and K12 celebrate World Oceans Day.

Take a seat at the Butterfly Stage in the McGovern Children’s Zoo for readings of Dr. Seuss’s timeless children’s story One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Children and families will get to know funny fish “from here to there” and learn how our everyday actions impact their ocean home. Enjoy Meet the Keeper Talks in the Kipp Aquarium, visit the World Oceans Day “Activity Zone” for face painting featuring a Dr. Seuss ‘fish’ character, and make a special craft to take home as a reminder of World Oceans Day.

World Oceans Day at the Houston Zoo is made possible by the generous support of K12 and United, the official airline of the Houston Zoo. All World Oceans Day activities are free with your paid Zoo admission.
