TEEN CAREER CONFERENCE AT THE HOUSTON ZOO

(HOUSTON) January 9, 2012 … What do you want to be when you grow up? For kids 12 years of age and older, it’s not too early to begin exploring the answer. At the Houston Zoo’s Teen Career Conference on January 22, kids interested in animal-related career fields can get answers straight from the horse’s mouth. Or in this case from those who take care of lions, tigers, birds, and reptiles at the Houston Zoo and other dedicated professionals who have made animal care and conservation their life’s work.

The Houston Zoo Teen Career Conference at the Houston Zoo’s Brown Education Center offers kids 12 and older a unique opportunity to learn from professionals in the animal care field about how to prepare for their career, areas of study required, and descriptions of job opportunities in the field. Houston Zoo staff participating in the Teen Career Conference will include carnivore and primate keepers, veterinary technicians and field conservation experts.

Participants can also learn about volunteer and internship opportunities at the Houston Zoo and discover other opportunities in animal-related career fields from exhibitors including Texas A & M University at Galveston and the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences at Texas A & M University.

Tickets for the Teen Career Conference at the Houston Zoo January 22 are $15 per person. Parents are welcome, however a ticket is required. Register online when you visit the Houston Zoo Website at http://www.houstonzoo.org/teensandadults/.
