Seventh Annual Movies Houstonians Love Film Series Launches Sunday, October 2 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

(09/30/2011)

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) film department continues its Movies Houstonians Love film series, now in its seventh consecutive year. The series was developed by the MFAH film committee in order to introduce new audiences to the museum’s year-round film offerings. Notable individuals from diverse niches of the Houston community are invited to choose and present a favorite film, sharing personal anecdotes about their choices in their introductory remarks. Past presenters—numbering nearly 40 participants—include such well-known Houstonians as former First Lady Barbara Bush and hip-hop artist Bun B. The 2011- 2012 season’s line-up consists of gallerist Meredith Long; designer Alexandra Knight; Southwest Alternate Media Project executive director Mary Lampe; Rice University representative Ping Sun; and The Menil Collection director Josef Helfenstein.

The seventh season opens on Sunday, October 2 at 5 p.m., with the remaining evenings in the series set for Mondays at 7 p.m. All films are shown in the Brown Auditorium Theater of the MFAH Caroline Wiess Law Building, 1001 Bissonnet Street. The public is encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at the box office, online at www.mfah.org, or at Membership or Visitor Services desks in the Law and Beck Buildings during museum hours.
