BEAT THE HEAT WITH FROSTY TREATS AT THE HOUSTON ZOO SATURDAY JULY 23

TXU Energy presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo Continues with Snowy Summer Fun for Animals and Zoo Guests

(HOUSTON) July 19, 2011 … We don’t have to tell you it’s hot and bone dry. We know you’ve heard enough about how hot it is outside and lamentations about our lack of precipitation. Would the prospect of free Blue Bell ice cream and a little snow make things better? We thought so.

Take a fun adventure through the Zoo on Saturday, July 23 as part of TXU Energy presents Chill Out at the Houston Zoo. Meet the TXU Energy team at their tent in the front entry plaza and start your scavenger hunt through the Zoo to each of our 13 indoor, air-conditioned “Chill Zones.” Complete your hunt by 3 p.m. and earn a coupon for free Blue Bell ice cream. The Blue Bell coupon is valid July 23 only, so come hungry!

The chimpanzees at The African Forest will beat the heat when two snowmen filled with yummy chimp treats visit their exhibit at 9:30 a.m.

Sunny 99.1 and Theatre Under the Stars will create a snow experience for kids of all ages from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the lawn near the okapi exhibit. While we can ensure the creation of snow in late July, we can’t guarantee it will last long, so get here early (we recommend between 9 and 9:30 a.m.) to behold this rare sight.

Check out more ways to beat the heat at the Zoo and at home with TXU Energy when you visit the Houston Zoo on the Web at www.houstonzoo.org/chillout/
