BARC Announces Partnership with Pets for Patriots; Military Veterans Entitled to Half-Price Adoptions

BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions offers pet adoptions to Pets for Patriots member Patriots in Houston, Texas and will assist them in selecting their new best friend. BARC is the only city shelter in Houston required by law to accept all animals, regardless of their age or condition. The organization is fully committed to pet adoption and works cooperatively with area pet rescue groups to permanently rehome as many animals as possible.

To ensure the health of the animals in their charge, BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions has both full- and part-time veterinarians on staff to conduct spay/neuter surgery and medically evaluate every animal on a daily basis. As part of its commitment to reduce the population of unwanted pets, BARC has many outreach programs to educate the community about spay/neuter, pet identification, vaccination and training. BARC offers free dog training for all dogs adopted from its shelter.

Every adopted dog or cat will receive:

* 50% off adoption fee for all veterans with proof of service (military ID or DD214)
* Initial vaccinations, including DA2PPV and rabies
* Spay/neuter
* Microchip for permanent identification
* 5 lb bag of Science Diet of dog or cat food
* Houston city license
* Free 6-week Saturday obedience classes ($10 for friend for full course)
* Animal Planet pet training CD/DVD
* Cesar Millan CD/DVD

BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions welcomes tax-deductible monetary donations in addition to towels and small blankets, newspapers, natural dog and cat treats and grooming supplies; see their complete wish list for details. For a more hands-on experience, become one of their valued volunteers or foster a pet in need.

Hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 11:30am-5:30pm
Thursday 11:30am-7pm
Saturday 12pm-6pm
Sunday 12pm-4pm

Please note: shelter entry requires a valid photo ID (drivers license, state issued ID card or passport are accepted)

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help the BARC Houston shelter, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. We encourage everyone to visit the new www.houstonbarc.com.
