NID-HCA Foreclosure Intervention Event To Help Hundreds of Houstonians Save Their Homes

(09/15/2010)

National Banks and Home Lenders to meet with at least 500 Homeowners at Saturday's free session to stave off Houston Foreclosures

Houston, Texas, September 14, 2010 --- The national fight against home foreclosures hits Houston, Texas, this Saturday when at least five hundred homeowners facing the growing reality of homelessness meet with Carol Lazard of the NID Housing Counseling Agency to prevent foreclosures from devastating low income Houston neighborhoods. Lazard, a HUD approved counselor, has organized the event and is coordinating the effort along with some of the nation's largest home lending institutions (Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, etc). Representatives from the institutions will be on hand at the Langham Creek YMCA (16725 Longenbaugh) to arrange loan modifications, discuss new government programs designed to help struggling homeowners and provide information on other methods to maintain homeownership, even in a recession.

"People are crushed when the foreclosure process begins. To make matters worst, they are bombarded with information from phony scammers who prey on them for a hefty fee. We would like to communicate with the public that There is Hope! and they can attain assistance free from HUD Approved Counseling Agencies. But on Saturday we hope to show the hundreds that attend that they can stay in their homes. There is another way," said Lazard, who estimates at least five hundred and maybe close to a thousand homeowners this weekend.

In addition to foreclosure intervention, Lazard will stress methods to prevent struggling Houstonians from being scammed by phony counselors who seek to take advantage of the thousands of homeowners. She will be in the community passing out literature informing Houston residents about the dangers of scammers. The media is invited to come out to capture footage of the community outreach on this Thursday and Friday evening. She advises that homeowners can avoid these scammers if they:

- Give homeowners guarantees that they can stop foreclosure
- Ask for a fee in advance.
- Advise you to stop paying your mortgage and pay them instead.
- Pressure you to sign over your deed or sign paperwork that you have not had a chance to read.
- Ask you to release personal info over the phone or online.

Lazard, who is coordinating the appearance of a high profile personality at the event, says Saturday is for anyone who feels they are in jeopardy of losing their homes. But the six hour session (12p-6p) is also for people who want to lower their interest rates. She also anticipates that community service organizations, outreach coordinators and concerned citizens and family members will also attend. Lazard helped organize a similar event at Lakewood Church where nearly 2,200 homeowners came out earlier this year.

Lazard can be reached at 713-931-3344 or NIDHousingCounselor@gmail.com. She can also make herself available to the news media for interviews prior to the Saturday event or for interviews/live shot appearances on Saturday at anytime.
