美國華人石油協會將於21日舉行業界專家聚集之生涯研討會議 報名日期19日截止

美國華人石油協會(CAPA)與休士頓BP亞裔聯絡網(BP Asian Network in Houston,簡稱BPANH)將於21日再度舉行很受歡迎的年度活動:2010生涯發展研討會(2010 Career Development Panal Discussion)。研討活動中將邀請數位業界專家,就今年主題:「在具挑戰性經濟環境中經營你的職業生涯」與大家進行討論。

石油協會會長陳振綱表示,經濟復甦不如預期,也延遲了業界人士的退休計劃與雇用新人計劃;石油業界如今面臨持續加強具競爭性專業,並吸引年輕才俊進入行業更向未來發展之挑戰。協會非常高興能繼續活動傳統,邀請業界傑出人士由不同角度提供新一代本業見解,由不同角度將他們的專業心得與大家分享。

生涯發展研討會將於21日上午9時進行至11時半(8時半至9時辦理登記,並提供免費早餐);地點在BP總部大樓Westlake 1之WL 1 咖啡廳(501 Westlake Park Blvd., Houston, TX77079)。

Appendix: Biography of Panelists

Panelist 1: SK Chang, PhD, CAPA EC Member, Former VP of Schlumberger Technologies (Beijing)

Dr. Chang received his BS in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, and his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley. He joined Schlumberger in 1979, and for 15 years conducted research in borehole acoustic and electromagnetic logging at Schlumberger-Doll Research in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He became Director of Geoacoustic Research in 1990. He moved to Sugar Land, Texas, in 1994 and managed the Logging While Drilling (LWD) product line. In 1997, he became Manager of Groups in directional drilling software and logging interpretation. He moved to Beijing in 2000 as Vice President and General Manager to build the Schlumberger Beijing Geoscience Center. In 2005, he moved to Japan as the Oil Field Services Global Acoustic Métier Manager. He moved back to Houston in July 2007 as the Advisor for Merger and Acquisitions. Steve owns 19 US patents and has authored over 80 journal and conference papers in acoustics and electromagnetics. Steve was the 2007 SEG Regional Lecturer for South and East Asia. During 1989-1994, he also served at the Northern Westchester Chinese School (New York State) as Vice Principal, Principal, Chairman of the Board and Board Director. He conducted a three-week lecture tour in China at Jianghan Oil Field, Xian and Beijing in 1988.

Panelist 2: John C. Nguyen, PhD, PCC, Sr. Service Manager, Shell Upstream Global Solutions

Dr. John C. Nguyen has over 19 years of experience in the energy sector. During his ten years with Shell, John worked as an electrical, reliability, process safety management, and control systems engineer. In his previous role, John was the Regional Head of Technical Training for the Americas, and he was able to transform an ailing business to a profit center. Presently, John is the Service Manager for Upstream America with Shell Global Solutions Upstream in the Projects and Technology business group. In this role John oversee a $33-million portfolio that includes Deepwater Exploration, Onshore Gas, LNG, Wind Energy, and Midstream Gas businesses. His stakeholders are Shell cost sharers, JVs and NOVs in the Americas region.

In his latest accomplishment, John was selected from a nationwide search to be featured in Discover Your Inner Strength. The book features best-selling authors Stephen R. Covey (Seven Habits of Highly Effective People), Brian Tracy (Million Dollar Habits), and Ken Blanchard (One Minute Manager). John Nguyen, Blanchard, Covey and Tracy, are joined by other well known authors and speakers, each offering time-tested strategies for success in frank and intimate interviews.

John is a speaker on the topics of Leadership Development and Emotional Intelligence. His credo is “If you can SEE it, you can HAVE it.” In 2009 John received his credential as a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation. John’s inner strength and joy in life comes from his blessed relationship with his wife Kirsten, son Hunter and daughter Kirby.

Panelist 3: Joe Hwang, President of Excellong Inc., Former VP of Conoco SE Asia

Joe Hwang has been in the oil industry for more than 30 years in several different continents. He joined Conoco (later became ConocoPhillips) Houston in 1979 as a geophysicist. He has worked in Ecuador, Colombia, US Gulf Coast, Gulf of Mexico, UK and Norway North Sea, Russia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia and China as Operation Supervisor, Geophysical Director, Exploration Manager, Branch Manager, Country Manager and Regional Manager. He was responsible for several major oil discoveries and rapid growth of Conoco’s Asia Pacific division. He retired from ConocoPhillips in 2007, and in 2008 co-founded Excellong Inc, an independent exploration and production company.

Mr. Hwang holds a BS degree from Taiwan National Central University and a MS degree from Texas A&M University. He attended Executive MBA program at Stanford, and General Manager program at Wharton Business School. He is a member of SEG, AAPG, AIPN, US-China Business Council, and American Chamber of Commerce. He was an instructor at Conoco’s emerging leaders program, and is teaching career enhancement class at the Fort Bend Community Church.
